Preparedness

Emergency Procedures

Clear, rehearsed steps protect people and vessels. This procedure covers what to do in medical emergencies, safeguarding escalations, weather or operational incidents, and communications with parents, carers, and authorities.

Immediate actions

  • Protect life first: call 999/112, deliver first aid within competence, and follow skipper or site lead instructions.
  • Remove participants from danger; appoint a deputy to supervise the wider group.
  • Notify the Designated Safeguarding Lead for any safeguarding or welfare concerns.

Communication cascade

The activity lead informs parents/guardians, Directors, and venue partners as soon as practicable. Media enquiries are handled centrally by the Board and no speculative comments are made while facts are confirmed.

Recovery & review

Incidents are logged using the Incident Reporting process. Equipment is quarantined if relevant, and a debrief is held to capture lessons, update risk assessments, and support the wellbeing of those involved.
