Safety First

Safeguarding & Welfare Policy

We are committed to creating safe, respectful environments for young people, vulnerable adults, volunteers, and visitors. This policy sets mandatory standards for conduct, supervision, and decision-making across every WMMA activity.

Scope and principles

Applies to all WMMA staff, Directors, contractors, volunteers, youth participants, visiting groups, and online contributors. We follow UK statutory guidance and the values of dignity, respect, empowerment, protection, and partnership.

Safe recruitment & conduct

  • Role descriptions include safeguarding responsibilities and expected behaviours.
  • Appropriate background checks (including DBS where required) are completed before unsupervised work.
  • A clear code of conduct covers boundaries, communication, photography, and lone working.

Reporting and escalation

Concerns are recorded promptly using the Incident Reporting process and escalated to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Immediate risks are referred to statutory services or emergency responders. All reports are logged, reviewed, and acted upon with confidentiality and care.
